Take Meaningful Action for the Disability Community
Some American states like Ohio have enacted a law that bans an abortion if the woman bases her decision on the receipt of a fetal Down syndrome diagnosis. These bans are a thinly disguised attempt to drive a wedge between pro-choice women and disability rights advocates. Further, a ban deprives the woman and her partner the opportunity to gather information that will enable them to make an informed decision based on facts, not assumptions about disability. The answer is not to interfere with a woman's constitutionally protected right to choose, but to educate women and their partners about the joys and challenges in raising a child with a disability
